In this 1944 cartoon, SNAFU learns that every job, no matter how apparently dull, boring, and useless is important.

He also falls prey to the usual "grass is greener" fallacy, but our good pal Technical Fairy 1st Class sets him straight as usual.

Overall a pretty unremarkable toon, with the ideas having been much better played out in "Infantry Blues."Â Although SNAFU's voice-mate, Bugs Bunny makes a voice-less cameo.

Sure are an awful lot of guys named Benny and Charlie in his unit, too!

"If you are a boob, you will be trapped!"

Truer words were never spoken! In this short, our beloved Private is left to his own devices in the North African desert, only to discover just what curiosity did to the poor cat.
Private Snafu is the title character of a series of black-and-white American instructional cartoon shorts produced between 1943 and 1945 during World War II. The character was created by director Frank Capra, chairman of the U.S. Army Air Force First Motion Picture Unit, and some of the shorts were written by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel. Although the United States Army gave Walt Disney Studios the first crack at creating the cartoons, Leon Schlesinger of the Warner Bros. animation studio underbid Disney by two-thirds and won the contract.
Continue reading "The History of Private Snafu"
