Spies (Aug. 1943)

In 1943's Spies, Private Snafu learns the dangers of combining alcohol and military secrets, no matter how insignificant. How's that go again? Loose lips and something or other... Click through for the toon.

The problem is that Snafu just isn't thinking, is he? He just lets bits and pieces slip without thinking, and when he downs a big ol' bottle of spirits, well, the whole thing comes out, with a not-so-good ending for the Private.

The Dr. Seuss / Ted Geisel writing is extraordinarily evident here, as the whole thing is narrated in a typical Seussian rhyme. Just F-ing brilliant.

See if you can recognize all of the caricatures. There's a couple I couldn't. Hirohito, Mussolini, Adolf, Goering, for sure, but at least one didn't click.

Also gotta love the, um, Nazi "transmitters" in that undergarment! ;-)
